《镜花水月》是赖声川继《如梦之梦》《曾经如是》之后超越时空的奇幻之作。剧中神兽就如《曾经如是》中的时间、偶然、十方等，将虚化之概念，以具象的角色呈现在台上；而花与月不同人生道路的选择、交错轮回，就好似《如梦之梦》中生命的回环往复。但《镜花水月》不仅仅是集二者所传达的内涵，更在剧场将人生这幅画续笔扩充。人生是如梦似幻的，却又包罗万象，每个人不同的选择最终仍收束于同一点，简单的道理尽显人生的包容性与全面性。镜中花，水中月，是为人在世之空相本核，赖声川以舞台为刃，刺破人间幻象，由个体产生的宏大叙事，诉说其作品中始终不变的人文关怀和宇宙哲思。

2024年1月10日，赖声川的第43部原创话剧《镜花水月》在父亲的家乡会昌戏剧小镇世界首演。这部赖老师专门为会昌戏剧小镇创作的作品，灵感来源于人杰地灵的会昌，在百年宗祠园林剧场上演。当这个故事从会昌来到上海，从独特环境加持的园林剧场搬到了赖老师的专属剧场上剧场，镜框式的全新制作，将为这部作品带来全新生命。

著名演员陈妍希首次挑战话剧大女主，将携手上剧团实力演员窦进，饰演“双女主”花与月。赖声川再次携手“时尚教母”、著名服装设计师黄薇，通过精妙的服装创意，将《山海经》中的神兽以特别的形象尽数呈现，观众得以看到那些想象中穿梭千年的上古神兽来到我们面前，浪漫而超凡。灯光设计简立人、舞美设计王健伟、影像设计王奕盛以及上剧场强大的制作团队也将共同打造出一个超越传统设计理念，颇具创新的现代美学舞台。上古神兽的如梦似幻，人生旅程的神秘虚实，都将在舞台上以意想不到的方式呈现。
