本次制作将对故事进行本土化改编。故事的背景将设置在解放前文学与出版的重镇——上海。

通过讲述文艺青年对文学艺术的寄托与对爱的期待，以洞察时代下文人内心的情感世界和在抗日战争的钢铁洪流中，在冰冷残酷的战争灾难中，只有文学艺术才能让我们依然保有人类最后的温良之心，这就是信中的那道“光”。

1943年，上海。一则备受关注的绯闻渐渐传开：刚逝世的小说家海鸣和女作家夏光的最后一份私人信件即将被公开出版。而出版人李灵因参与了《朝华》杂志的编辑工作，现被关押在日本宪兵队拘留所。十分崇拜海鸣的郑微岚找到李灵。为了目睹这封“粉丝来信”，微岚和李灵开始慢慢回忆起了“夏光”的神秘往事……

1941年，公共租界内，作家们组成了“七人会”，依然坚守着《朝华》杂志。他们明白上海已成“孤岛”，虽然很多的书店倒闭，许多的文人逃离了上海，而他们认为现代文学在抗战时期仍然有其时代价值，为了纯粹的艺术，发出了口号：“即使是被占领被殖民的土地，总不能连艺术也被占领了去！”“七人会”领头宣言人正是著名小说家——海鸣。

郑微岚是刚入编辑室的小毛孩，他的心中有一个秘密：他曾以“夏光”的笔名和海鸣长期写信通讯。他如小说家般不断地完善“夏光”的形象，而笔下人物“夏光”慢慢生长。海鸣身患重病，他误认为“夏光”是他生命最后时刻的缪斯女神，他以和“夏光”通信为灵感，刊登了让报社得以生存的新小说《人生伴侣》。而这一切却因海鸣的生命让憾事提前发生……
