《四世同堂》是中国著名作家老舍先生所创作的长篇小说，以祁家四世同堂的生活为主线，辅以北平小羊圈胡同各色人等的荣辱浮沉、生死存亡，真实地记述了北平沦陷后的畸形世态，形象地描摹了日寇铁蹄下广大平民的悲惨遭遇，心灵震撼和反抗斗争。

北京曲剧根据老舍同名小说改编，在尊重原著的基础上故事情节进行重新组合和改造。将原著中三个家庭中重点突出了老派市民祁家、小官僚小汉奸的冠家，并将重墨集中在祁老人、瑞宣、韵梅身上，着力渲染在特定历史条件下人们安于小家平和、逆来顺受、彷徨到悲愤、求索、抗争之思想和情感的演变过程；同时保留了原著中那个非常鲜明独特而又富于深意的日本老太太，并让她在剧中不断出现，成为一条既独立又有相互关联的发展线。对北京的市井风情，则是结合剧情需要，随时点染。“老北京人”的豁达、正直、友善、诙谐和那逆来顺受、固守陈规以及自命不凡的人物个性在剧中展现得淋漓尽致。

北京市曲剧团

北京曲剧，是北京唯一的地方戏，诞生于新中国成立之初，自1952年老舍先生为剧种命名至今已有70余年历史，是由魏喜奎为代表的一代曲艺名家创立的新兴剧种。北京曲剧是北京这座千年文化名城孕育而生的真正属于北京的地方剧种。它的音乐唱腔是以单弦牌子曲为基本音乐素材发展创作而成，道白以普通话为基础，突出北京语言的特色，具有浓郁的京腔京味儿。2013年底，被文化部确定为“全国地方戏创作演出重点院团”。2014年被文化部、人力资源部评选为全国文化系统先进集体。2021年被列入北京市级第五批非物质文化遗产代表性项目名录。

北京市曲剧团是北京演艺集团旗下的全国专业艺术表演团体之一。单一剧种和单一剧团。现已创排演出《茶馆》《四世同堂》《龙须沟》《正红旗下》《烟壶》等200余台剧目。曾获“五个一工程奖”、“文华新剧目奖”、“十个一工程奖”。剧团曾携剧目赴台湾、德国、俄罗斯演出，巡演足迹遍布祖国大江南北。
