西奥伊拉穆斯出生于1942年5月6日。12岁开始演奏手风琴，14岁录制了第一张专辑，同时为南非广播公司首次播音。之后不久加入乐团并在音乐会和舞会上演奏。这时，他已能娴熟地演奏大号、单簧、钢琴、吉他和管风琴。毕业后，西奥成了自由音乐工作人，在南非、纳米比亚和西南非流行一时的各种音乐会上演奏。西奥在南非空军乐队呆了四年，后来加入S.A.B.C音乐部达21年之久。西奥创作了100多首南非歌曲，他改编的乐曲在音乐界也广受好评。他深爱本土音乐并在这一领域成绩斐然。另外他还为电视，广播节目创作了许多标志性音乐。南非广播公司改编录制了西奥30多首曲子并独家使用，西奥商业发行的专辑也达16张之多。西奥曾荣获南非ARTES及OKTV大奖。1990年，他应邀在布厄诺斯举办的世界上最大的农业展示上表演，西奥经常担任音乐比赛评判并是知名电台人物。
